I agree with Eshcar.
Generally, the immediate solution is to add lock (synchronize on pipeline)
around getScanners() as it is done with getSegments() and this is needed. I
agree with moving the operation of taking the size() under the lock in "already
not existing" drain() method.
Pay attention that adding lock around isEmpty() is problematic as its call is
surrounded by the lock as well and it may cause deadlock.
