when debugging applications that talk to HBase, it would be useful to output
our version string to aid troubleshooting.
in particular, this is useful if the end user a) is not sure of the version
deployed (due to jar names that don't include a version) or b) has accidentally
deployed multiple client jar versions and we aren't sure which is loading.
