Welcome back [~openinx], sorry for all the churn.
I figure once we have the HBASE-18410 branch ready for the mater branch we can
merge it there (or rebase + push) and then backport needed changes to branch-2
and earlier. If it looks like a given backport will be very messy (e.g. for
branch-1) we can start a feature branch to work out the details.
