maybe we don't need to keep this old version in master?
I'd actually say the opposite would be the better route forward at this point.
It's in a stable-enough state that any developer could contribute to it without
much pain.
Would you be OK with me syncing up master and doing away with that branch
instead? Maybe a DISCUSS to make sure people see it?
