I guess getting rid of conf won't be possible since it's also used by tests to
"inject" mock/fake Registry implementations. We need a real overhaul in our
code base to allow use of some dependency injection framework for better
testing. But for now, you can ignore the first comment in the last review
unless you have another way to get rid of it.
