Chia-Ping Tsai commented on HBASE-19204:
----------------------------------------

The issues is caused by that the {{SelectChannelConnector}}, which is a
component of *Jetty* and used by hadoop's {{HttpServer}}/{{HttpServer2}}, hang
if it is created/closed many a time in JVM. We have to come up with workaround
because it blows up our branch-1.x QA.
1) dig in the *Jetty* and openjdk to find out the root cause.
2) downgrade the JDK7 used in QA
I prefer the #2 as it may be a quick and easy solution. Also the issue happens
only on tests. I think the {{HttpServer}} won't be closed/created many a time
in same JVM when folks run the hadoop in production because its life is bound
with the {{datanote}}, {{namenode}}, or other main components which run in
separate JVM. As I see it, downgrading the JDK7 won't hurt the reliability for
folks who run JDK7 in production. The #1 is great but it will take much time.
This issue warrant a great attention from committers but it should not impede
the contribution from contributors.

BTW, I have encountered the issue on my jenkins when running test via jdk-7-131
but it is rarely. [~stack] Which version of JDK you used in HBASE-14430?

> Sean has been looking at tooling and infra. This Umbrellas is about looking
> at actual tests. For example, running locally on dedicated machine I picked a
> random test, TestPerColumnFamilyFlush. In my test run, it wrote 16M lines. It
> seems to be having zk issues but it is catching interrupts and ignoring them
> ([~carp84] fixed this in later versions over in HBASE-18441).
> Let me try and do some fixup under this umbrella so we can get a 1.2.7 out
> the door.
