Yes. Had a look at the latest patch in
[HBASE-7129|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-7129]. It takes care of
it to some extent, but not all.
Recently HBASE-18761 added support for append and increment for REST.
Either we can increase the scope of
[HBASE-7129|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-7129] to take care of
this or this JIRA can be used to document the above two ops.
