major release, etc. 3.0.?

Technically you can do this: "A major upgrade allows the HBase community to 
make breaking changes."  And LimitedPrivate is "...used for internals we expect 
to be pluggable, such as coprocessors." 

I appreciate the work done in this patch but could we deprecate the old and 
point at the new instead? If possible? It may not be possible.
