To be clear, what was here did not cause my long-running test breakage (as I
suppose). On deeper digging, it was a case of HBASE-18152, corruption, which I
think is now fixed by HBASE-20939 (I hope!). What was here 'worked' but lets
commit the addendum because I think it puts the original fix up on a better
basis. I filed an issue to address your finding on miscounts if an exception
thrown as subtask here. Thanks [~allan163]. Let me try a test w/ the addendum
in place before commit.
