Update:
(Patch from https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-15728 for branch-1 is
already reverted today. So I will put a big patch in this Jira including
HBASE-15728 for branch-1 and the fix to deal with NPE)
My plan:
I will follow [~Apache9] 's suggestion to fix the NPE only. I will leave
backporting HBASE-21150 to another separate issue.
