Thanks for taking a look.
It is an awkward issue. We can't let external clients use our internal
protobufs else we'll not be able to upgrade our internal shaded version. So, we
have the 2.5pb unshaded versions.
On the next major version, it'd be good to prune back the set of protobuf
messages we expose and perhaps upgrade from pb2.5 to 3.x.
