Sean Busbey commented on HBASE-21808:
-------------------------------------

also I have already run into the case where I was getting a new contributor set
up and their use of homebrew meant that we broke right away. So if I've missed
something and we can't compile with JDK11-targetting-JDK8 then we need a
section in the contributor guide to specifically call out how to install jdk8.
I would rather things just work.

> Ensure we can build with JDK11 targetting JDK8

> When folks "install a JDK" wether they get JDK11 now will depend on the
> platform (e.g. from homebrew you will get jdk11). For new contributors this
> results in confusing errors on first run.
> Make it so that a non-release build using JDK11 and using our default
> compiler source/target versions of JDK8 can complete.
