[~vjasani] Thanks for pointing it out! Yes, the issue is related to this Jira
due to an incorrect assumption about WAL splitting which doesn't yet hold true
for branch-2.3 which is why the NPE. I have raised [another
PR|https://github.com/apache/hbase/pull/2891] to fix this issue. Please take a
look.
