This is a backport of https://github.com/apache/hbase/pull/6627 on `branch-2`. Tested this locally the same way as described here: https://github.com/apache/hbase/pull/6627#issuecomment-2609440870 We backported the patch to every active branch but I just noticed that we forgot to backport this to `branch-2`.
