bq. When we built before this change, did we build example code as part of the
general build? Do you know Sergey?
We were not building examples under /parent examples dir. This was one of the
reasons that I filed this issue, so that the example code is compiled and we
can ensure that it is not broken accidentally. I am not sure though about the
non-java examples, I think we should not build them, since at least the thrift
ones require thrift, boost, etc.
