ramkrishna.s.vasudevan commented on HBASE-7893:
-----------------------------------------------
To really know if major compaction is happening or not, one way is to if any
compaction is getting triggered every 24 hours.
The logs that you attached will have some logs before them that will indicate
whether it was really a direct major comapction or a minor compaction promoted
to major.
> hbase.hregion.majorcompaction not taking effect.

> For disabling auto major compaction, I configured
> hbase.hregion.majorcompaction = 0 in the config file and restarted the
> cluster. In spite of this, major compaction continues to run everyday. Here
> is the config I set:
> <property>
> <name>hbase.hregion.majorcompaction</name>
> <value>0</value>
> </property>
> What other way can I disable auto major compaction? I expected this config to
> work. What am I doing wrong here?
> Please advice. Thanks a lot.
