The jira held open for so long because of we can not reproduce. But the NPE is
really happening. We see 3+ cases. The NPE related to
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-10728 , one way to workaround NPE is
to revert this fix. It may relate to constant propagation and some random
behavior of SessionState. The patch of HIVE-13745 only adds extra Null checks,
it brings no risk, and may have some potential benefits.
The test failures are not related.
