I think changing the pom entry to:
{code}
<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.hive</groupId>
<artifactId>hive-jdbc</artifactId>
<version>${project.version}</version>
<scope>test</scope>
</dependency>
{code}
will do what you want. But if you want to drop the pom.xml changes that's fine
too.
Other than this I'm +1 on the patch.
