I believe I understand the problem much better now. I have identified that filter operators over different lateral views are being removed during the PPD stage (confirmed that disabling PPD "fixes" such queries). These operators are considered "pushable" because all their operands share the same table alias. What happens then is LateralViewJoinerPPD.process() calls JoinerPPD.process(), which adds such a filter operator to the list of candidates, but lacks the knowledge of how to push it. After that, LateralViewJoinerPPD.removeAllCandidates() removes this filter. The attached patch _appears_ to fix the bug. I believe that this fix is very well isolated to lateral views only and should have little to no impact on performance.
