The error occurs when transforming the search expression back to disjunctions:
from
{code}
"SEARCH($2, Sarg[0; NULL AS TRUE])"
type: BOOLEAN NOT NULL
{code}
to
{code}
"OR(IS NULL($2), =($2, 0))"
type: BOOLEAN
{code}
The search expression type is {{BOOLEAN NOT NULL}} because when the original
expression
{code}
base.int_col_to_test IS NULL
OR base.int_col_to_test = ''
OR base.int_col_to_test = 0
{code}
is transformed into a search, Calcite's simplifier recognizes that this
expression can't be null. However, this is not recognized by
[RexUtil.composeDisjunction|https://github.com/apache/hive/blob/master/ql/src/java/org/apache/hadoop/hive/ql/optimizer/calcite/SearchTransformer.java#L97]
when transforming the search back into disjunctions.
