Stamatis Zampetakis commented on HIVE-29760:
--------------------------------------------

Why is the NOT BETWEEN considered simpler? What's the benefit in doing this
transformation?

> Improve SEARCH expansion to exploit NOT_BETWEEN operator.
> Currently a search range like "{{{}(-INF, 10), (20, INF)"{}}} is expanded as:
> {noformat}
> x < 10 OR x > 20
> {noformat}
> But we could simplify the expression by using NOT_BETWEEN (i.e. Hive.BETWEEN
> operator with inverse flag enabled):
> {noformat}
> x NOT BETWEEN 10, 20
> {noformat}
