Description:
GetSplits reports a VARIANT column as variant, and the LLAP output rows are
typed LazyBinary records.
- An llap-client jar from 4.2.x or earlier fails building its reader for a
VARIANT column.
- Clients that include HIVE-30170 get JSON values.
Proposal, the same policy as HS2 (HIVE-30166): clients without VARIANT support
get string with JSON values.
- Top level: convert server-side on the LLAP output path (CAST(v AS STRING)
plus a string schema type).
- Nested variants (array<variant>, struct<...variant...>) need a column-type
rewrite, since Hive has no complex-type
CAST.
- Alternatively, a client capability shared with HIVE-30166.
