A wikidoc has been created for metrics. It's a work in progress (see doc
comments on HIVE-14358):

The version numbers for individual metrics exclude 1.3.0 because branch-1
doesn't have the HS2 web UI. But is there another way to use metrics without
the web UI? Should more metrics be backported to branch-1?
Currently branch-1 has the 8 metrics created by this issue plus 1 created by
HIVE-11984:
* jvm.pause.info-threshold
* jvm.pause.warn-threshold
* jvm.pause.extraSleepTime
* open_connections
* open_operations (HIVE-11984)
* active_jdo_transactions
* rollbacked_jdo_transactions
* committed_jdo_transactions
* opened_jdo_transactions
