In summary of the above huge comment (I am sorry if it sounds kinda negative):
If the code already exists (which I assume is the case given the benchmark) it
would be nice to put it in a feature branch. We can take a look and go from
there, I would be happy to participate (with patches ;)) in the effort to make
it the universal RawStore.
If the code doesn't exist somehow (e.g. benchmarks are prototype-based) it
would be nice to write it in the above in mind, in my opinion, or otherwise
discuss and flesh out the approach first.
