[~kgyrtkirk], it seems to me that the vectorization flag should be set before
the early bail out (so instead of removing the early bail out, just set the
flag before it). However, I am not sure now how this can be tested / why no
tests failed before because of this. Are any of the ptest failures above
related to your patch?
