Reviewed, built and tested locally. Your self-review points are fixed in
your last commit.
I merged current main into the branch to resolve the conflicts (d04977c510).
They came from #8713 and #8691, which were merged separately. This branch has
the newer version of both, so I kept its side for all four files, and main had
nothing extra in them.
Verified: full build, JSON plugin unit and dialog tests, the json IT project
including 0018 and 0019, plus some manual runs for NDJSON, a `${VAR}` block
name, splitting, and the pretty-print and append-boundary errors. Not verified:
the dialogs in a live GUI, and `$[0]` literal paths outside the unit tests.
