One data point for the `BytesBuffer` row of the matrix, from #3090: the store-side struct copy reads only the header byte of an encoded property value, and every pushdown path that would need the full struct decoding is dead today (sort keys reset, `NoIndexException`, `queryAll` receives a plain `Query`, the shard scan drops the query bytes). So the "fallback would have to stay byte-identical" constraint currently binds on the server's own encoder and its readers, not across the gRPC boundary to the store. Details and the codec test are in that thread.
