The general consensus was (including @rdblue I believe) to leave it as is. In the end, Iceberg is calling a private constructor, which isn't really subject to maintaining backward compatibility. Otherwise, in Parquet there would be a private constructor, which isn't being used by Parquet itself, which is a bit awkward.
