@maxdebayser Thanks for working on this, and for your patience because it took quite a while, and we also went a bit back and forth. Let's merge this in. As a next step, we can revisit https://github.com/apache/iceberg/pull/8012 and add a lot of integration tests to make sure that we don't have any correctness issues. I think there are still some open-ends on the statistics, but they are not limited to Python.
