@pvary Thanks for the insightful comment. Looking at the document, [Spark 3.5 supports 0.12.0(!) - 3.1.3 and the default version is 2.3.9](https://spark.apache.org/docs/3.5.0/sql-data-sources-hive-tables.html#interacting-with-different-versions-of-hive-metastore). [Spark 4.0 supports 2.0.0 - 4.0.1 and the default version is 2.3.9](https://spark.apache.org/docs/4.0.0/sql-data-sources-hive-tables.html#interacting-with-different-versions-of-hive-metastore).
