@RussellSpitzer is my understanding correct that if we put the variant column in a placeholder binary column, we will still be able to use VARIANT Types when HMS is the underlying catalog? if so IMO it this might make more sense, unless the community prefers a different approach -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
