Thanks for submitting this, @danielcweeks! And I appreciate the review, @jordepic! I think it is best to revert this and I'm glad to see that a custom `FileIO` is an option. I think we also discussed a recovery procedure that would help in non-HDFS tables. S3, for instance, has versioned buckets that allow you to recover objects after deletion for a configurable time period.
