@pvary, this is independent of derived or generated column expressions. This covers values that are represented only in stats, like alternative lower/upper bounds (`to_lower_case(str)`) or bucket partition values. Generated columns would be more like default value expressions, where the expression is embedded directly in the schema. I considered generalizing this, but generated columns need to be in the schema and that means they already have field IDs.
