Thanks a lot for the detailed report and the clear repro (´｡• ᵕ •｡`) I'd like to take this one, and I've opened #4205, which sends `AssertLastAssignedFieldId` when `update_schema` adds a schema, the same way Java's `UpdateRequirements` does.
