There is an [open issue](https://github.com/apache/iceberg/issues/1617) to add support for relative paths in table metadata to make relocating tables easier. There is also a [design doc](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RDEjJAVEXg1csRzyzTuM634L88vvI0iDHNQQK3kOVR0/edit#heading=h.hxmtkjthp8hm) if you are interested.
