Closing this as there are already open issues (and even PRs) surrounding this subject. My vote would be to allow for an additional flag to ignore OVERWRITE type snapshots. There are cases I can see where users might want to do that, such as bulk changing the file format or the compression type of existing files (but without changing any of the existing row level data, but it would be on the user to ensure that their OVERWRITE met their own criteria). -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
