Philip Zeyliger created IMPALA-6773:
---------------------------------------
Summary: Handle Ubuntu14.04 support in bootstrap; update
requirement to Java 8
Key: IMPALA-6773
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IMPALA-6773
Project: IMPALA
Issue Type: Task
Components: Infrastructure
Reporter: Philip Zeyliger
Hadoop 3 per https://hadoop.apache.org/docs/r3.0.0/ introduced a requirement to
be on Java 8. (This is not crazy; Java 7 was end of lifed for public updates in
April 2015 per https://java.com/en/download/faq/java_7.xml .) Because
IMPALA-6753 pulled in Hadoop3, the Java 7 being installed in
bootstrap_development.sh is no longer sufficient. [~tarasbob] brought this up
at https://gerrit.cloudera.org/#/c/9085/4/bin/bootstrap_system.sh.
I was not able to install Ubuntu16's packages on Ubuntu14, nor where any of the
binaries under http://openjdk.java.net/install/index.html sufficiently
obviously licensed for us to put in our bootstrap script.
Given that Ubuntu18.04 is around the corner, I think the easiest resolution is
to stop supporting Ubuntu14 in that script. End users can install the Oracle
JDK manually after agreeing to the license, and I think our developer community
is familiar with these steps.
