h3. Background
Iceberg REST catalogs (IMPALA-13586) are plumbed through the local-catalog
MetaProvider layer. Today the only
supported write is INSERT INTO, which commits coordinator-locally via
IcebergDmlFinalizer and bypasses catalogd.
All other DML is rejected in the analyzer, in hybrid mode (catalogd + REST
secondary) DDL is forwarded to catalogd, which does not know the REST table.
h3. Goal
Support, in priority order: INSERT OVERWRITE, UPDATE, DELETE, MERGE, OPTIMIZE,
CREATE TABLE, CTAS, then DROP TABLE, CREATE/DROP DATABASE, ALTER TABLE,
TRUNCATE,
RENAME, statistics, COMMENT ON and ownership/privileges.
