@agustaf9 -- thanks for testing that. What is the NFS backend? Does the situation resolve itself after a while without the server process stopping? At some level, this looks to be a manifestation of the long standing Java issue [JDK-4724038](https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-4724038) which is closed, marked 'won't fix'. I think I can create a local equivalent situation (`lsof` shows "DEL" file descriptors) and PR #3244 addresses that on a test setup by explicitly triggering a GC which is a comment recommendation for reports of this.
