Andreas Pieber resolved KARAF-1058.
-----------------------------------
Resolution: Won't Fix
I'm -1 on this one. In linux you typically do a "unzip xxx.zip". If there is no
"internal" folder this would spill the distribution all over your hard disk. In
addition once you've discovered that there is such a folder it's no longer that
magical. In you assembly.xml files (for your custom distribution) you can also
use property replacements ${karaf.version} making it not that hard to keep up
with this.
> remove <includeBaseDirectory/> from assembly.xml when generating
> apache-karaf-2.2.4.tar.gz

> Key: KARAF-1058

> Project: Karaf
> Issue Type: Bug

>
> currently, artifacts such as apache-karaf-2.2.4.tar.gz
> carry inside them a base directory such as apache-karaf-2.2.4
> I suggest to remove <includeBaseDirectory/>
> http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-assembly-plugin/assembly.html
> this would simplify custom build
> http://karaf.apache.org/manual/latest-2.2.x/developers-guide/custom-distribution.html
> since there will be no need to know magic folder names a priori
