I also faced this issue and I debugged it. The problem is that the Subject is
null at line 428 of {{KarafMBeanServerGuard#currentUserHasRole}} (Karaf 2.4.0):
{code}
Subject subject = Subject.getSubject(acc);
{code}
With a remote JMX connection or through Jolokia, the Subject is not null.
