The old joke when I was involved in mudding (1989-1992) was "Half the
females on muds are guys, and the other half are Claire."  (Claire was 
a high-school-aged girl from Texas who had several hundred
characters.)

That aside, one of the admins of the original TinyMUD was female (I
wish I could remember her name!) and Jennifer Smith coadmined TinyHell 
with her husband.  (She was the more rational of the two, by far.)

I don't remember any female coders during my time, but I left the
field relatively early.  There were plenty of female builders, 
though.
