it's not. Moreover, I think that open source has a role in this, too: you
can find good free documentation, so it's (relatively) easy to get an
advanced education without attending any course. BTW I have a degree in
physics, but I learned everything I know about Linux from online docs
(that's the italian university - I (am supposed to) know everything about
quantum mechanics and theoretical physics, but nothing about computers,
even if that is slowly changing now).
