I think this happens way too often.  Do you know what it's like to try to advance
yourself, or to move into a way-technical area, when the lead or manager of that
area is blatantly sexist and not willing to give you a chance?  This *does* happen.

Aahhh... maybe I can better make my case this time without arguing.  Many women are
disinterested precisely because they have been taught since they were little girls
that they just aren't supposed to be interested.  If you are conditioned to believe
something long enough you eventually take it as the gospel truth.

I am not for a minute suggesting cramming techie stuff down disinterested women's
throats.  I am suggesting supporting mentoring programs for girls and young women
to show them that technical careers are an option for them.  I think it's important
to show today's young girls that if they like science or math that it's fine, not a
"boy thing".  Then let them decide if they are interested or not.  Let's not have
society make the decision.  How many of us who are women in tech fields are looked
upon as different or weird because of who we are?  Isn't something wrong with that?
