I've been working with [~gtompa] on this and we just noticed
https://github.com/apache/incubator-livy/pull/289/ . It has a huge overlap with
what we've done and seems to have solved most of our blockers.
It doesn't add explicit Scala 2.12 support for Spark 2.4 line, but I believe
it's easy to do once that pull request is merged.
