+1 to this ticket; CDCR needs to go for the sake of the health of the project.
Maybe, we can deprecate it now in 8x and remove it in 9x or 10x?
Also, if someone has time to spend can move it away from core and into a
contrib module, then we can keep it around for whoever is using it as an
optional package.
