I must have missed the discussion about the design of this functionality - the 
description here and the documentation diffs are seriously lacking in details. 
Please add better explanations of the configuration parameters and the 
consequences of using them. 

This seems like a powerful (and very much needed) feature, but it can easily 
lead to service disruption if used without understanding.
