Hi Chris. The old version (Solr plugin) has deficiencies which I fixed
(distributed mode didn't work properly, for example). I don't think it makes
sense to keep the old code, to be honest. I spent considerable time cleaning it
up... The backported plugin works just fine with 8x - it just requires a newer
version of Java... I think I'll put it on github as a separate build so that
folks who need it can compile manually (or just grab the JAR).
