What is the state of this? 8.11.2 has a way to flattening via catch from
attached patches.
But 9.2.0 does not have this code anymore (it is as if it never had it)
Looking at LUCENE-8811 does not seem to help.
Any workarounds to avoid this exception that were mentioned somewhere but I
managed to miss?
