Thanks for the clarification — that aligns with what we observed. Based on the discussion here, I’ve opened a small documentation [PR](https://github.com/apache/lucene/pull/15586) to make it explicit that scoring/ranking behavior can change across major versions and that users who need strict backward ranking compatibility should consider supplying a custom Similarity. No behavior change is proposed — this is purely to help future users performing large version jumps avoid confusion.
